MTV: "The Vampire Diaries" Plot Hints

Would "The Vampire Diaries" really kill off Tyler Lockwood? Jenna Sommers? Matt Donovan? Jeremy Gilbert? Heck, could they even get rid of Damon Salvatore? MTV: "Big 4" Concert Report

INDIO, California — One week after indie hipsters and pop enthusiasts stood on the same desert ground for the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, an estimated 55,000 metal fans watched "The Big 4" of thrash share a U.S. stage together for the first time. "This is history tonight and you're part of it," Metallica frontman James Hetfield told the crowd Saturday at the Empire Polo Fields in Indio, California. "Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer and Metallica as one — with you!"

MTV: Box Office Report

The box office got a boost from kids over the holiday weekend as "Rio" held on to the top spot with moviegoers and the Easter-themed "Hop" crossed the $100 million mark, according to studio estimates. Hollywood accountants got just what they needed from two little bluebirds over the weekend as "Rio" enjoyed the biggest debut of any movie in 2011 thus far. The latest animated outing from the company behind the "Ice Age" franchise, about a pair of endangered South American birds, beat the weekend openings of rival kid flicks "Rango" and "Hop" with its estimated $40 million weekend.

Meanwhile, the first "Scream" movie in 11 years fell well below expectations with its $19.2 million opening. "Scream 4"'s combination of returning castmembers Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courtney Cox and a cast of younger newcomers wasn't enough to beat the debuts of either of the other sequels to the 1996 original.

"Hop" leapt over the competition to become the first movie of 2011 to enjoy two consecutive weeks at #1 on the box-office tally over the weekend. Featuring Russell Brand as the voice of the Easter Bunny, the kids' flick successfully thumped four new movies: "Hanna," "Soul Surfer," "Your Highness" and Brand's own "Arthur." MY REPORT.

"Soul Surfer" Cast Interviews

"Soul Surfer" tells the true story of professional surfer Bethany Hamilton who lost most of one arm in a shark attack at the age of thirteen but was back on her board less than one month later. She's since won surfing competitions and worked with faith-based charities doing relief work in Thaliand and elsewhere. MTV: "Your Highness" Interviews

I sat down with James Franco, Danny McBride, Justin Theroux and director David Gordon Green from "Your Highness" and talked about the movie's adept blend of the classic sword and sorcery / adventure quest genre and stoner comedy. I'm uncharacteristically against the stream of major film critics on this one: I loved it! Maybe I watched too much "Krull" as a kid.
