MTV: Box Office Report

"Cars 2" may be the worst-reviewed movie in Pixar's storied history, but that didn't stop the animated sequel from maintaining the studio's streak of box-office number ones. The second entry in the merchandise-friendly franchise took in $68 million over the weekend, according to distributor Walt Disney Studios, making it Pixar's 12th consecutive movie to debut atop the box-office charts. "Cars 2" Interviews

I recently sat down with Pixar mastermind John Lasseter along with "Cars 2" voice actors Owen Wilson, Larry The Cable Guy, Emily Mortimer and one of my favorite comedians, Eddie Izzard. You may watch those interviews RIGHT HERE. Or, if you prefer, you can check out these Lego versions of "Cake or Death" and "Death Star cafeteria." Larry the Cable Guy told me I asked great questions.

MTV: Box Office Report

The big-screen debut of DC Comics' "emerald knight" may have been #1 at the box office over the weekend but it failed to gather as much green as most observers had hoped. "Green Lantern" generated an estimated $52.6 million in its debut weekend, less than the opening numbers for superhero flicks "Thor" and "X-Men: First Class" earlier this year. MTV: Box Office Report

"Super 8" took the #1 spot at the box office over the weekend. The film's $37 million opening isn't on par with recent summer blockbusters, but it did beat studio expectations, according to reports. And "Super 8" bears the distinction of being the only non-sequel in the weekend's top five. CLICK HERE to read the rest of my report.

Ewan McGregor Interview

I told Ewan McGregor from the outset of our interview that I would do my best to refrain from addressing him as "Master Jedi."

I was there to talk about "Beginners," the intensely autobiographical film from writer / director Mike Mills where McGregor plays a graphic designer coming to terms with the death of his father, portrayed magnificently by Christopher Plummer. Told largely in flashback, we watch Oliver (McGregor) reflect on his parents marriage, his father's late-in-life decision to come out of the closet as a gay man and his own difficulty maintaining relationships. There's humor, there's drama, there's indie-movie quirkiness.

You may CLICK HERE to watch my interview with McGregor, CLICK HERE for my chat with Mills and CLICK HERE to download the "Linoleum Knife" podcast where I gave my reviews of "Beginners," "X-Men: First Class," "Beautiful Boy" and "Submarine" alongside film critic / expert Alonso Duralde.

MTV: Aziz Ansari, His Junk, '30 Minutes or Less'

Aziz Ansari has delivered brilliant one-liners, barbs and tomfoolery in small supporting roles in movies like "Get Him to the Greek" (2010), "Funny People" (2009) and "I Love You, Man" (2009). But "30 Seconds or Less" sticks the 28 year-old South Carolina-born standup comic in multiple scenes, providing a welcome expansion of the "Parks and Recreation" star's movie screen-time. MTV: Do Foo Fighters Know Robert Pattinson from Robert Plant?

UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Hard rock, heavy metal, hardcore and punk have long gone hand-in-hand with evil wizards, magic, vampires and werewolves. And with a collective sub-cultural pedigree that includes stints in the Germs, No Use for a Name, Sunny Day Real Estate, Scream and some band called Nirvana, you'd think the Foo Fighters — set to perform at Sunday's Movie Awards — would know their "Potter" from their Zeppelin. Certainly they can recognize a "wand" reference and pinpoint its origin? CLICK HERE to read the rest of my report.

MTV: Jason Bateman Warns Jason Sudeikis: 'Don't Be Hungover' At Movie Awards

Jason Sudeikis is obviously no stranger to the pressures of live TV. On Sunday, he'll join a long list of "Saturday Night Live" stars who've hosted the MTV Movie Awards that includes Andy Samberg, Jimmy Fallon, Eddie Murphy, Mike Myers and Dennis Miller. Nevertheless, Sudeikis told us he'll be psyching himself up in the mirror in the moments before the show. CLICK HERE FOR THE REST...

MTV: Jason & Jason's NSFW Nicknames

Jason Sudeikis and Jason Bateman ran into an interesting problem on the set of "Horrible Bosses." Both men are brilliant comedic actors, so casting them together was a wise decision. But with all of the fast-paced conversations that happen in moviemaking, how, exactly, was director Seth Gordon and his crew or costars like Jennifer Aniston and Colin Farrell supposed to differentiate between two leads with the same first name? During an MTV Sneak Peek Week Q&A, Jason and Jason (one of them is hosting this weekend's MTV Movie Awards) revealed the outrageously crude nicknames they developed to solve the problem. Watch the very much NSFW video here.
