MTV: Green Day Video Premiere

Billie Joe Armstrong's ongoing treatment forced Green Day to cancel shows, but that doesn't mean the band has left fans without something new to salivate over. ¡Uno! dropped last month, ¡Dos! follows next month and the third new Green Day album in the trilogy, ¡Tre!, was recently moved up from January to December 7. Combine the legendary punk trio's enduring relevance with the massive worldwide phenomenon that is "The Twilight Saga" and you get "The Forgotten," the brand-new Green Day music video from "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" (and ¡Tre!), premiered on MTV and MTV.com exclusively on Tuesday (October 30). MTV: 'Jersey Shore' Stars Call Sandy's Seaside Heights Impact 'Devastating'

Hurricane Sandy overwhelmed the coastal city of Seaside Heights, New Jersey, with National Guard video footage showing rows of homes submerged in water, 50 feet of Funtown Pier collapsing and the boardwalk being badly damaged. CLICK HERE to read the rest of my report.

MTV: 'Underemployed'

"Underemployed" follows five friends dealing with the reality of post-college life. With those ups and downs, there are plenty of opportunities to laugh and cry, as in real life, which begs the stylistic question: is MTV's new scripted series a "dramedy"? CLICK HERE to read the rest of my report.

MTV: Sandy Rolls Through Rock Hall

Hurricane Sandy has reached beyond the East Coast, extending a destructive hand as far as the Midwest. Some of the most treasured artifacts from modern music were rattled at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which is situated in Cleveland, Ohio. According to a report from a local Fox affiliate, winds as high as 60 mph blew some siding from the building.CLICK HERE to read the rest of my report.

MTV: Box Office Report

The third time was the charm for Ben Affleck as his third directorial outing became the #1 movie in America during its third weekend of release. "Argo" collected an estimated $12.3 million over the weekend even as four new releases floundered. Overseas, "Skyfall" generated a queen's ransom of $77 million, two weeks ahead of the new Bond flick's U.S. debut. CLICK HERE to read the rest of my report.

Billboard: Danny Elfman

Composer Danny Elfman finds deep inspiration when writing about tragedy.

The character Jack Skellington's need to escape the little world where he was king in the 1993 animated film "Nightmare Before Christmas" mirrored Elfman's struggle with the end of his band Oingo Boingo. He lost his dog not long before working on his new animated film "Frankenweenie." For the forthcoming biopic "Hitchcock," Elfman focused on the deep wells of emotion springing forth from actor Sir Anthony Hopkins' eyes.

These were some of the secrets unleashed by the Grammy-winning, Emmy-winning and Academy Award-nominated composer often associated with his classic collaborations with director Tim Burton ("Pee-wee's Big Adventure," "Batman") as well as filmmaker Gus Van Sant ("Good Will Hunting") during a Q&A at the Billboard/Hollywood Reporter Film & TV Music Conference at the W Hotel in Hollywood, Calif., on Thursday.

MTV: Box Office Preview

Newcomers "Cloud Atlas," "Silent Hill: Revelation 3D," "Fun Size" and "Chasing Mavericks" will battle with the tightening hold of Ben Affleck's "Argo" for the top spot at the box office this weekend. If all of the new films fail to connect, the Oscar-buzzed "Argo" could be #1 in its third weekend.

Billboard: Christina Aguilera

Christina Aguilera's Keynote Q&A today (Oct. 25) at the Billboard/Hollywood Reporter Film & TV Conference was as colorful as her two-toned blonde/bright red hair: She dropped some f-bombs, spoke plainly about her career, and even belted out a bit of a classic tune. Billboard: Composers/Music Supervisors

The key to survival is diversify. Always negotiate to retain ownership of your score when the upfront money is too low. Oftentimes the constraints of working for a director or producer will actually help the creative process. Regardless of his personal troubles or the tabloid headlines, Mel Gibson is a very dedicated director who knew exactly what he wanted with "The Passion of the Christ." He even did a bit of chanting in the studio. These were some of the big takeaways from the "Songs and Scores: A Gathering of Musicians" panel and Q&A at Billboard's Film & TV Music Conference at The W Hotel in Hollywood on Wednesday.CLICK HERE to read the rest of my report.

Billboard: EDM Invades Hollywood

Dealing with the expectations, frequent mixed messages and huge budgets of Hollywood studios requires an important choice for EDM artists:

"Be a politician, or you will become a schizophrenic."

That was the advice EDM-centric composer Henry Jackman ("X-Men: First Class") gave attendees at Billboard's Film & TV Music Conference on Wednesday at The W hotel in Hollywood. He was part of the "EDM Invades Hollywood" panel moderated by KCRW's Jason Bentley. Jackman and Bentley were joined by Tom Holkenborg - better known as Junkie XL - and Mike Simpson, one-half of the legendary production team The Dust Brothers (Beck, the Beastie Boys' "Paul's Boutique").

Spinoff Online: 'Arrow' S1 Episode 3 Recap

Last week, China White; this week, Deadshot.

Not only did another DC Universe villain make it onto Arrow this week but someone discovers Oliver Queen’s secret identity. In the third episode of The CW superhero drama, “Lone Gunman” (no, not “Gunmen”; this isn’t an X-Files crossover, unfortunately), Deadshot shows up with his poisoned bullets — and while it was nice to see him in Star(ling) City, from the looks of it, he may not be back.

Billboard: Gustavo Santaolla

Two-time Oscar winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla can't read or write music. Even more amazingly, he wrote the entire score for "Brokeback Mountain" before a single frame had been filmed. These were a couple of the insights into his process the Argentine-born musician and composer offered at a Q&A Wednesday morning at Billboard's Film & TV Music Conference, where he also performed. Billboard: David Chase Q&A

Most filmmakers who'd dare to set their movie during the rock n' roll revolution of the late '60s are likely to find themselves in trouble when it comes time to clear all of that Beatles and Stones music. But when you've got "Little" Steven Van Zandt signed on as an executive producer, pulling together (and making the right deals) for all the songs becomes simpler.

That was one of the revelations dished out by writer/director David Chase at a special screening and Q&A for his forthcoming film-directorial debut, "Not Fade Away," on Tuesday night, which kicked off this week's Billboard/Hollywood Reporter Film & TV Conference.

MTV: Box Office Report

"Paranormal Activity 4" possessed the box office over the weekend while Tyler Perry's decidedly un-"Madea" outing, "Alex Cross," fizzled.

The $30.2 million opening posted by the latest "Paranormal Activity" flick was roughly $10 to $20 million lower than industry analysts expected, but still enough to put the found-footage franchise back at #1. By comparison, last year's "Paranormal Activity 3" opened with $52.6 million, but the films were extremely inexpensive for Paramount Pictures to produce. ("Paranormal Activity 4" was made for about $5 million.)

MTV: Box Office Preview

Liam Neeson isn't afraid of much in the "Taken" movies, but he should be wary of ghosts this Halloween season. "Paranormal Activity 4" looks likely to dethrone "Taken 2" from the top of the box office this weekend. Paramount's found-footage horror franchise has made a combined $576 million around the world against roughly $10 million in production costs since it began in 2007. Spinoff Online: 'Arrow' S1 Episode 2 Recap

What’s the worst part about being shipwrecked on a remote island for five years? Aside from coming back and having to fight criminals, there’s all that paperwork. OK, maybe that’s not the worst part of the “five years in hell” billionaire playboy Oliver Queen spent receiving some mysterious training in the art of superheroics, but the whole presumed-dead thing still carries a certain amount of bureaucratic nonsense with it. Namely, that pesky death certificate somebody filed. Going to court is bad enough. Having to fight China White? That’s just not cool. CLICK HERE to read the rest of my recap.

MTV: Box Office Report

Ben Affleck has played a superhero, a bank robber and a CIA analyst, but none of that experience mattered when he went up against a certain 60-year-old, Oscar-nominated Irishman over the weekend. Though Affleck's third directorial outing, the critically acclaimed "Argo," gave it a strong run for its money, Liam Neeson's "Taken 2" remained the #1 movie in America.

Spinoff Online: 'Arrow' S1 Episode 1 Recap

Arrow goes to some lengths to establish its own universe independent of the continuity and complexities of the DC Universe. But if the pilot episode of the new CW drama that blends Gossip Girl socialite glitz with The Crow-style revenge grit is any indication, there will be plenty of winks, nods and outright gifts to the most diehard fans of Green Arrow. Last weekend, "Hotel Transylvania" brought the sluggish box office back from the dead. Will the uptick continue?

The combined potential might of Liam Neeson's "Taken 2," Tim Burton's "Frankenweenie" and the expansion of "Pitch Perfect" into more theaters bode well for Hollywood's prospects this weekend, according to industry experts and analysts.

MTV: 'The Vampire Diaries' Zach Roerig

Next week's kickoff of "The Vampire Diaries" season four will be all about Elena's transition from human to vampire and nobody feels more responsible for that extremely unfortunate situation than Elena's old flame, Matt Donovan.

Speaking to Hollywood Crush by phone from the Northwestern Ohio farm where he grew up, Zach Roerig said his character will be at odds with Damon over the season three finale choice that saved Matt's life. He also revealed that Matt will make a pretty big sacrifice of his own, which will draw him even closer to the girl coveted by both Salvatores.

MTV: Box Office Report

Leave it to a vampire to bring the box office back from the dead. "Hotel Transylvania" enjoyed the biggest September opening ever with its $43 million debut. The box office was up 21 percent overall versus the same period last year, bucking the downward trend of the last few weeks with gusto. The cartoon comedy beat industry expectations and enjoyed the most successful opening ever for Sony Pictures Animation.
