MTV: Oscars Five Funniest Moments
Seth MacFarlane's jokes were so bad at the Oscars, Captain James T. Kirk had to travel back in time to try to help him. Of course, that was the gag. MacFarlane mocked plenty of people, including himself, while hosting the 85th annual Academy Awards. The "Family Guy" creator's mere invitation to head up Hollywood's most prestigious affair offered some forewarning that the telecast would have more irreverence than any past ceremonies. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's action movie "Snitch" and the sci-fi horror flick "Dark Skies" are the only major new releases, leaving a potential opening for "Identify Thief" to steal back the throne. John McLane has defeated thieving European baddies, rogue military madmen and tech-savvy terrorists, but he nearly lost the box-office battle with one of the "Bridesmaids." "A Good Day to Die Hard," the fifth entry in the series that made Bruce Willis a star, just barely defeated "Identity Thief" (featuring Melissa McCarthy in her first starring role) over President's Day weekend. MTV: 'The Vampire Diaries' Recap: 'Into the Wild'
You’d think after how things turned out for his character on "Lost," Ian Somerhalder would know better than to go cavorting about on remote islands. Of course, Damon Salvatore was a reluctant participant in the little expedition led by Professor Shane as most of the gang set off to unlock Silas. We learned that Damon doesn’t want the cure for himself (sorry, Elena!), Stefan does (shoulda guessed that one, Elena) and Klaus is still carrying a torch for Caroline, even as he very nearly killed her. MTV: Box-Office Preview
Melissa McCarthy won't have to worry about that "always a bridesmaid, never the bride" cliché after this weekend. "Identity Thief," starring the comedic actress who stole the show in the surprise smash "Bridesmaids," should easily land the #1 spot at the box office, besting fellow newcomer "Side Effects" in the process.
