My All-Time Favorite "Extended Plays"...

A few friends of mine (including members of Samhain & Minor Threat!) have a little email chain going where we compose "favorites" lists (best cover songs, etc.). The most recent addition to our semi-regular chain was "favorite E.P.s." The criteria: no cover E.P.s, no live-only E.P.s, no glorified singles. So without further ado, here is my list (in alphabetical order):

AFI, All Hallows EP (1999)
ALICE IN CHAINS, Jar of Flies (1994)
BLACK FLAG, Jealous Again (1980)
BOLD, Bold (1989)
BROTHERHOOD, No Tolerance for Ignorance (1988)
CELTIC FROST, Emperor's Return (1985)
COLDPLAY, The Blue Room EP (1999)
INTEGRITY, In Contrast of Sin (1990)
INTO ANOTHER, Creepy Eepy (1992)
QUICKSAND, Quicksand (1990)
SACRED REICH, Surf Nicaragua (1988)
SAMHAIN, Unholy Passion (1985)
SLAYER, Haunting the Chapel (1984)
TRAINING FOR UTOPIA / ZAO, The Split EP (1998)
YOUTH OF TODAY, Disengage (1990)

Bonus points to AFI and Into Another for the best EP titles ever.

I bought that Bold ep at a used music store. It was my first step into hardcore music. I will never forget the wonder I had when I picked it out of the bin. What is this, I thought. It was a gateway album.
